GENESIS OF INDIA CULTURE LEAGUE
India Cultural League was founded in 1942 by a small group of young people in the
leadership of Late Shri. Amalendu Roye with the objective of inculcating the spirit of
patriotism in the youth through cultural and sports activities. The organization was called
“Youth Culture Centre” and had the motto of “Unity and Progress through Culture”. After
independence it was re-christened as “India Cultural League” which since then is actively
promoting Art, Music, Drama, Dance, Sports and Education.
Right from 1942 ICL has been conducting many grand programs like, “All India Athletic
Meet”, “All India Cultural Conference”. “Music Concerts”, “Dance Programs” etc. Music
competitions are held every year in Shanmukhananda Hall in various genres of Indian
Classical Music, both vocal and instrumental.
In the world of sports, particularly in the history of football culture in Mumbai, ICL has
played a significant role by winning many prestigious championships. To name a few ,
Harwood Football in 1951-52, IFA Shield in 1953, and Ram Varma Memorial Tournament
in 1954.
ICL entered the educational field in 1975 with the formation of “India Culture League
Education Society” (ICLES). It chose Vashi, Navi Mumbai as its “Karma Bhoomi” to cater to the
educational needs of the wards of "Project Affected Families” (PAF) of CIDCO, the wards of Koli
Samaj and the wards of thousands of families from all over India who have chosen the fast
growing Navi Mumbai as their home.
The ICL Junior college was started in 1978 and the degree college in 1984. The ICL High school
and Mon Ami School started in 1980. The NMMC has lauded the contribution of our founder
by naming the road opposite to the college as “Amalendu Roye Marg”. In 1998 under the able
leadership of Shri R.S. Jhunjhunwala, the college was renamed as “Motilal Jhunjhunwala
College”
Today, our college has achieved the status of a premier institution of Navi Mumbai through
dedicated and devoted services of many stalwarts who were and are associated with our
institution. We have the proud privilege of being associated with eminent Indians like Justice
Bhagawati, Justice Tendulkar, Justice Lentin and leading film personalities like Bimal Roy,
S.D. Burman, Manna Dey, Basu Bhattacharya (our ex-president) and many more.
From culture to freedom movement, to sports to education, India Culture League has come a
long way. We carry on the spirit of our founder members and continue to play a catalystic
role in spreading the education and carry on the mission of “Education Maketh Man”.
About us
"Education Maketh Man" has been the beacon guiding us over the years. In the fourth year
of accreditation, we have reviewed our aims and objectives and adopted more specific,
pragmatic and focused MISSION and GOALS to realise our VISION of "Enlightenment of
Human spirit through Education".
The College is situated in Vashi, presumed to be the nucleus of Navi Mumbai which is a city
of the 21st century. The natural habitat amidst which the college building is located has
high mountain ranges on one side and blue creek water on the other side which enhances
attractiveness of the institution. The spacious college building campus admeasuring 8000 sq.mtr. is just at afew minutes walkable distance from Vashi Bus Stand. Plenty of buses ply
from Vashi Railway Station to the bus stand. Big open air auditorium has added charm to
the premises. Evergreen lawns & a variety of trees speak for a clean and green environment,
which has also made the campus lovely and lively.
Our Degree College, a permanent affiliate of University of Mumbai, imparts instructions up
to final year of B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. Sensing the need of the society, B.Sc.
(IT), B.Sc. (Computers), B.M.S. & B.M.M., B.Sc. (Biotechnology) courses have been started. We intend to start B.Sc. (Microbiology), B.Sc.
(Biochemistry), MCA, M.Sc. (Bioanalytical Science), M.Sc. (Research) (Zoology) and Ph.D.
Junior college has XI & XII classes in Arts, Science & Commerce streams, the examination of
which is conducted by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary
Education. A favourable consent from Govt. of Maharashtra is awaited for starting
computers, electronic and information technology at junior college level.
Our college boasts of a spacious building, well equipped laboratories, ultra modern
computer lab, library, canteen, open air auditorium, developed sports ground, botanical
garden and other facilities. Highly qualified, dedicated & devoted staff members take active
part to teach and train students for the future. The consistently good results at Board and
University examinations stand testimony to the quality of education imparted.
The laurels won by way of prizes at University / State / National and
International level in sports and cultural activities speak for the emphasis
laid at the college for all round development of the students. College has been accredited at B++ level by NAAC & included in u/s 2(f) & 12(b) of
UGC Act 1956.
